The Tower Clock Initiative: Fort Bend County Courthouse
In April, 2011, the Museum received a request for a proposal on the restoration of the Fort Bend County courthouse tower clock. Unfortunately there was no funding of the project by the Texas Legislature through the Texas Historical Commission. Then in December, 2013, the Museum received an email from Mr. Don Brady notifying us that the County had raised the funds to proceed with the restoration. By mid-February the paperwork was completed and we set about to travel to Richmond, Texas to disassemble the E. Howard Tower Clock. Stewart McGregor, of Lockhart, Texas, assisted me in the work of taking the old clock apart and lowering the parts down to the attic floor to be wrapped and packed in storage containers for the trip back to my shop in Austin. We will have the restoration completed in May and will reassemble the clock in the courthouse tower by June. The Museum’s Tower Clock Initiative is saving these National Treasures for the next generation to enjoy.
