The Tower Clock Initiative: Hood County Courthouse
On May 4th, 2010, we met with the Hood County Commissioners Court in Granbury to make a recommendation on the restoration of their Seth Thomas tower clock. We had been to the tower earlier that morning to inspect the clock. Novice attempts to repair the clock over the years had proved unsuccessful. The clock needed a complete overhaul and restoration. The Commissioners accepted our recommendation. May 26th was the date set for the disassembly and lowering of the great clock. Board Member, Daniel Sweet, and Logistics Engineer, Dave Galbraith, joined me on this mission. When we arrived at the Hood County Courthouse that morning, we were met by local TV and newspaper cameras to document the occasion. The clock was loaded up piece by piece and brought back to the Museum’s restoration facility in Lockhart. When the work was completed, the clock was placed on exhibit in the Museum until the Hood County Courthouse renovations were completed. We have now completed the restoration of the Hood County Seth Thomas No. 16 tower clock and installed it in the courthouse tower.
